How to Set a Session Timeout on Individual Patron Records

Modified on Wed, Mar 25 at 11:04 AM

Summary

While a default time can be set in Parameters which applies to all logged in patrons’ sessions, an individual session timeout can be defined for specific patrons on the Patron Details screen.

This guide will provide the steps required to set a timeout session on an individual patron’s record.  Separate guides provide the steps required to search for a patron record and using Page editing to add a field to a screen.

Set a Session Timeout on a Patron Record

While you may want a default automatic session timeout to apply to the majority of patrons, for example non-library staff, it is possible to set individual timeout sessions for staff patrons, for example, to ensure their sessions remain open longer before an automatic logout occurs.

Note: If the Session Timeout field is not included on the Patron Details screens, add it using page editing functionality, available via System > Pages.

1. Navigate to Circulation > Patrons.

2. Search for the required patron record.

3. Click on the Edit icon corresponding to the applicable patron record in the resulting List screen.

4. Scroll down to locate the Session Timeout field and enter a number in minutes, for example 120, that pass before the patron’s session is logged out.

5. Click the Save button.

The Session Timeout field and value will display on the Details screen of the patron record. If the field does not display on the Details screen use the page editing functionality via System > Pages to add it to the screen.

TIP:

If a timeout session is generally applied to all patrons, navigate to Management > Parameters and enter that value in Parameter No.1206 Inactivity Automatic Logout Time
