Overview of Housebound Patron Requirements and Functionality

Modified on Wed, Mar 25 at 11:09 AM

Any patron who is unable to physically attend the library, can be flagged as a Housebound member. The system will “remember” any items previously issued to the patron. This ensures that, if an attempt is made to checkout an item previously issued to the patron, a message will display indicating so. The message will include the date the item was previously issued to the patron and provide the Circulation Desk staff member with the option to proceed with re-issuing the item to the patron or not.

This guide provides information on housebound functionality. Separate guides provide the steps required to use the Page editing function (accessed via System > Pages) and the general functions of the Circulation Desk.

Housebound Patron Record Requirements

To flag a patron to be housebound, edit the Patron Details screen and click the radio button next to Yes in the Housebound section of the screen. Click the Save button

Note: If the Housebound field does not display on the Details screen use the Page editing functionality (via System > Pages) to include it.

Issuing an Item to a Housebound Patron

Items are checked out to housebound patrons in the same way as non-housebound patrons. However, if item that was previously checked out to the housebound patron and staff attempt to checkout the item to them at a later date, a message displays identifying the item has been previously checked out to the patron and the date of the previous checkout.

Circulation Desk staff, if authorized, can either allow the checkout to the patron or not. If the logged-in staff member has automatic override a green acknowledge Check will display in the message box.

Note: For staff members who do not have automatic or manual override permission, a message box would include a check but the message will display in red text. Clicking the check simply acknowledges the message.
