How to Create a File Information Box in LearnPath or News Pages

Modified on Fri, Mar 27 at 7:33 AM

This guide explains how to create a File Information Box in LearnPath or News pages to display or provide downloadable files, such as PDFs, within an informational content box.

Overview

A File Information Box is like a Text Information Box but allows you to add a viewable (image or PDF) or downloadable file to it.

How to Create a File Information Box In LearnPath OR News Pages

  1. On the News home page OR LearnPath guide, click the button.
  2. Select File from the drop-down menu
  3. The ‘ADD INFORMATION BOX – FILE’ screen will be displayed.
  4. In the Heading entry window, enter the text to be displayed as a heading in the top bar of the Information Box.

Note: If the Heading field is left blank the Information Box will be displayed without a Heading bar.

  1. In the Text entry window, enter the text to be displayed as the contents of the Information Box.
  2. (OPTIONAL) Use the Rich Text Format editor to format the heading or text. You can also add images and links if needed.
  3. Using the Heading Background or Content Background checkboxes, override the default color scheme to change the background color of the top bar or the information box.
  4.  (OPTIONAL) Apply a border to the information box.
  5.  Use the Show in Search checkbox to control whether the information box will be displayed on the LearnPath guide or News page or kept hidden.
  6. (OPTIONAL) The Embed and Show when embedded functionality can be used to display the information box on another application such as a web page.
  7. Of notable mention in this screen is the File upload option. Selecting a file here will provide access to it in the Information Box. For example, selecting a PDF or image file will embed that PDF in the Information Box, provided the file size is less than the maximum allowed - see Note below.   If a file that is not a PDF or image is selected, e.g. Word document or PowerPoint slideshow OR if the embedded file size is greater than the maximum allowed, a link to the file will be displayed, allowing the OPAC user to click the link to download the file.
  8. Click the Save button to save the entries and options. Alternatively, click the Cancel button to abandon the creation of the Information Box.

Note: The maximum file size of the file to be uploaded is controlled by Parameter 4259 'embeddedFileMaxSize'.

This parameter should be modified only under instruction from Support. The maximum file size for the embedded file must be lower than 2,000,000,000 bytes or 2GB.
