Reopening a Finalized Inventory Section

Summary

Inventory section finalization is completed during the overnight Housekeeping process. When Finalized, the Unscanned items in the processed Inventory Section are made Missing in the Catalog Copies record. This process cannot be undone; however, an Inventory section may be reopened for a set period of time.

Reopening does not undo the effects of Finalizing a Section, but it changes the Section Status from Finalized back to Processed which allows you to scan additional item barcodes into the Section and then Finalize the Section again.

Note: Inventory results will be affected if the section is reopened and changed. For example: items that were made Missing by the original finalization, will now be included in the Missing/Disposed summary count, rather than the Unscanned summary count. However, the items will continue to show correctly in the ‘Items missing for period’ figure in the Inventory Summary report.

Based on the impact reopening an inventory has on Inventory Section summary figures, before deciding to reopen an inventory Section, careful consideration should be given if there is only a few items which have been missed during scanning. It may be preferential to scan the missing items through the Circulation Desk and in the next Inventory the items will be reported as being recovered.
