Summary
There are a number of messages, which may display, when completing transactions in the Circulation Desk. This guide will provide a table identifying the settings behind some of the messages that may appear in the Circulation Desk.
Abbreviations Used in This Guide
The following abbreviations are used in the table in the Question Message Examples section:
- PLC – Patron Loan Category. A number of BLCs may be created, one of which is selected on the applicable patron record.
- RLC - Resource Loan Category. A number of RLCs may be created in your system, one of which is selected on each copy record.
- CED – Circulation Expiration Date. CEDs are often used, particularly by libraries in educational institutions to limit the due date of any checkouts, to different types of patrons that may otherwise be extended beyond the end of the school year. It is not mandatory to set a CED for any or all RLC/PLC combinations.
Question Message Examples
The inclusion of a both a Check and a Cross icon, on displayed messages, is dependent on whether the logged in Circulation Desk staff member has the applicable override User Privilege operations activated.
- For staff without override operations activated, displayed messages are a statement. They do not provide the option to allow or disallow and the message text usually displays in red.
- For staff with override operations but not the automatic override will see a message display which includes a Check and a Cross
- Messages in black text, which include only a Check, do not halt further transactions. This indicates the logged in staff member has automatic override permission
The following table describes some of the question messages, to which a response may required (depending on User Privilege settings), before any further circulatory function can be performed in the Circulation Desk:
